During a visit to my doctor, I asked him, “How did he determine whether or not an older person was losing their marbles and should be admitted to an aged-care facility?”

“Well,” he said, “we fill up a bathtub, then we offer the person a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to empty out the water.”

“Oh, I understand,” I said. “A person with normal intelligence would use the bucket because it’s bigger than the spoon or the teacup.”

“No” he said. “A normal person would pull the plug. … Would you like me to begin making arrangements for you?”
