The Awareness of Unity

November 19th, 2008 Pete No comments

The experience of awakening (samadhi, or satori), is self-revealing, self- illuminating; it effortlessly reveals the unitive Truth, and dispels all doubts.

There is no difficulty of understanding involved in it whatsoever. What is difficult, however, is the subsequent adjustment to living the rest of one’s life with the knowledge thus acquired. It takes a good deal of reflection and getting-used-to in order to recognize only the One in all phenomenal manifestations as well.

Such an acquired habitual perspective no longer distinguishes between the Absolute and the relative, but focuses singly on the awareness of Unity.

Such a mind takes no interest in pursuing gratification in appearances, but remains unswayed from Unity-awareness by either pleasant or unpleasant circumstances.

Beyond Ideas

November 19th, 2008 Pete No comments

Not knowing how near the Truth is,
People seek It far away, — what a pity!
They are like one who, in the midst of water,
Cries imploringly for a drink of water,
Or like the son of a rich man
Who wanders away among the poor.

… Those who testify to the truth of the nature of the Self,
Have found it by reflecting within themselves,
And have gone beyond the realm of mere ideas.
For them opens the gate of the oneness of cause and effect;
And straight runs the path of non-duality …
Abiding with the Undivided amidst the divided,
Whether going or returning, they remain forever unmoved.
Holding fast to, and remembering, That which is beyond thought,
In their every act, they hear the voice of the Truth.

How limitless the sky of unbounded freedom!
How pure the perfect moonlight of Wisdom!
At that moment, what do they lack?
As the eternally quiescent Truth reveals Itself to them,
This very earth is the lotus-land of Purity,
And this body is the body of the Buddha.

Quote of the Moment

November 19th, 2008 Pete No comments

Awakening to freedom, which is also known as enlightenment or self-realization, happens when you finally see that everything between your ears - the whole world of thought, of “me, myself, and my story” - is an illusion, yet you, as awareness, the witnessing presence, are still very much here. Realizing this frees you from mental and emotional suffering. It opens you to an endless flow of wisdom, love, and creative energy from within. You discover your true purpose for being here. Living becomes rich, meaningful, and a lot more fun!

The Still Observer

November 19th, 2008 Pete No comments

Your mind may be active with thoughts — thoughts about activity or thoughts about trying to stop — but that is all occurring in the statelessness of being, which is stillness itself.

If you can just get it out of your mind that unchanging stillness is something that can be done or practiced, something that you can succeed or fail at doing, then stillness, the presence of being, can finally reveal itself to you as your own self.

Recognize that the impulses to do stillness come from the activity of the mind that is appearing in stillness. That stillness is not dead or blank. It is consciousness. It is awareness itself, and you are that awareness.

The thoughts, I have to get still, I’m trying to get still, why can’t I get still? are being observed by and experienced by stillness itself.

Getting Acquainted

November 19th, 2008 Pete No comments

I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car.

You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny?

Yeah, well I couldn’t believe it …. he was a DWARF!!!

He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, ‘I AM NOT HAPPY!!!’

So, I looked down at him and said, ‘Well, then which one are you?’

And then the fight started ….

Sharing Presence

What is Sharing Presence about ?

Sharing Presence is not a teaching, but a sharing of who we truly are. It is about connecting people in a state of presence, awareness, dimension of consciousness far deeper than thought! In this state we are the awareness of our ego and we find a space, a stillness in which thoughts are just thoughts, no more. We discover real trust, love, joy and honesty to ourselves and others.

We meet, without knowing each other and connect in the here and now! It is a place, where you can go and feel accepted for who you are. You don’t need to worry about how old you are, where you are from, what you do, etc. … because the truth is we are no different from each other. This feeling of oneness cannot be understood. It can only be experienced.

Everyday we find ourselves thinking about the past and the future, our “life story”, which is full of goals and desires in order for us to reach the day, the moment, when we believe to know it all, to feel complete as a whole and free from all pain. In all this doing we forget the simple truth, which is to live NOW, today.

When we realize the obvious, problems don’t exist, because you are aware of your thoughts, your feelings, your senses, your outer world. When you are the awareness of this you are no longer the content of your life. You are life!

Society and its educational systems are designed to train the brain, not the heart, and therefore most people only know themselves on the surface. Experience has proven to us that our sharing is of profound importance for everyone’s life in todays disconnected society.

Through gentle and enjoyable exercises taken from the world of theatre, you are invited on a journey to your true self. In this awareness our perception on life changes. You will consciously transform the way you communicate, think and feel with yourself and others.

Finding a Partner

November 11th, 2008 Pete No comments

At some point, life became divided into male and female, the basic polarity. On the level of our physical form, each one of us embodies this polarity. We are either male or female, which means we are only one half of the whole (I also speak about this in The Power of Now).

There is a pull in every human being towards wholeness, which in essence is spiritual, i.e. the return to oneness. On the level of form this expresses itself as a longing for completion through merging with the opposite energy polarity. On the most basic level, it manifests as sexual desire, then as the emotional need to be with a man or a woman, then as love between a man and a woman.

(Even in gay couples the basic polarity still operates on an energetic level).

Ultimately, of course, a sense of wholeness and deep fulfillment cannot be found on the level of form, but only through accessing the spiritual dimension of consciousness itself. It is also true that the female body is conditioned through evolution to perpetuate life, to give birth and nurture. So, in a woman’s case, the desire to have a partner and children is indeed, visceral.

This in itself is not of the ego, although it can become part of it, if it is incorporated into the egoic mind’s judgements and story-making (I need a man/woman to make me happy etc.). It is at this point that male/female relationships become beset with ‘problems’.

Even love easily becomes corrupted in this way by the mind. So, must you remain unfulfilled unless you find a partner, have a family and children? No. (As you must have observed, there is unhappiness in many relationships and marriages).

Since the spiritual dimension has already come into your life, (or you wouldn’t be reading this) you are beginning to realize that the essence of your being, which is formless, is not really affected even though you may feel some sense of lack on the level of form.

For some people, it is precisely the experience of some strong sense of lack that drives them deeper into their essential selves – the I Am without attributes, beingness itself. Of course, you remain open for a relationship or marriage to come into your life, of course you would be happy to have children and indeed this may still happen. But your inner peace and your sense of who you are do not depend on it.

Generally speaking, whenever you experience the lack of something on the level of form that is conventionally considered important for one’s happiness (lack of relationships, of money, lack of freedom, of health, of social identity etc.), use this, while it lasts, as an opportunity to go more deeply within to find the Being that you are prior to all identifications.

At the same time, you do what you can on the outer level to remedy this lack. You are much more likely to succeed without if you have already succeeded within. In any case, there is a sense of inner freedom from what happens or doesn’t happen.

Quote of the Moment

“The human understanding, once it has adopted an opinion, collects any instances that confirm it, and though the contrary instances may be more numerous and more weighty, it either does not notice them or else rejects them, in order that this opinion will remain unshaken.”

The Ascent of Mount Carmel

November 11th, 2008 Pete No comments

The following verses were written by the Spanish mystic, Juan Ypes, (later known as St. John of the Cross), after having spent many months imprisoned in a small cell in Toledo, in 1578. They are from his drawing The Ascent of Mount Carmel, which contained instructions for climbing to the summit of spirituality, the clear recognition of our oneness with God.

To reach satisfaction in all desire its possession in nothing.

To come to the knowledge of all desire the knowledge of nothing.

To come to possess all desire the possession of nothing.

To arrive at being all desire to be nothing.

To come to the pleasure which you have not, you must go by a way in which you enjoy not.

To come to the knowledge which you have not, you must go by a way in which you know not.

To come to the possession you have not, you must go by a way in which you possess not.

To come to be what you are not, you must go by a way in which you are not.

When you turn toward something, you cease to cast yourself upon the all. For to go from the all to the all you must leave yourself in all.

And when you come to the possession of the all, you must possess it without wanting anything.

In this nakedness the spirit finds its quietude and rest.

For in coveting nothing, nothing raises it up and nothing weighs it down, because it is the center of its humility.

A Tall Order

November 11th, 2008 Pete No comments

A woman rubbed an old bottle she found and out popped a genie. The amazed woman asked the genie if it could fulfill three of her wishes.

The genie said, ‘Nope, sorry, three-wish genies are a storybook myth. I’m a one-wish genie. So … what’ll it be?’

The woman did not hesitate. She said, ‘I want peace in the Middle East . See this map? I want these countries to stop fighting with each other and I want all the Arabs to love the Jews and Americans and vice-versa. It will bring about world peace and harmony.’

The genie looked at the map and exclaimed, ‘Lady, be reasonable. These countries have been at war for thousands of years. I’m out of shape after being in a bottle for five hundred years.. I’m good, but not THAT good! I don’t think it can be done. Make another wish and please be reasonable.’

The woman thought for a minute and said, ‘ Well, I’ve never been able to find the right man. You know — one that’s considerate and fun, romantic, likes to cook and help with the house cleaning, is good in bed, and gets along with my family, doesn’t watch sports all the time, and is faithful. That is what I wish for … a good man.’

The genie let out a long sigh, rolled his eyes and said, ‘Let me see the fricking map again.’
